Gas Monitoring System GMS


The gas monitoring system (GMS) is primarily designed to meet the needs of electronic manufacturing plants—such as those producing semiconductors, solar panels, and liquid crystal displays—as well as laboratory settings. During production or experimental processes, these facilities often use large quantities of various specialized gases, most of which are toxic, corrosive, or highly flammable and explosive. Once a gas leak occurs without any prior warning, it could pose a severe threat to the safety of personnel on site. Therefore, to ensure personal safety and provide operators with a reliable basis for quality control and operational procedures, a gas monitoring system has been installed. The GMS plays a critically important role in such facilities by providing real-time alerts for abnormal gas leaks, enabling monitoring personnel to take appropriate follow-up actions promptly.

  • The Gas Management System (GMS) focuses on real-time monitoring and recording of the operational status of gas equipment. It continuously monitors delivery pressure, detects equipment anomalies, and triggers alarms accordingly. The system is equipped with comprehensive historical query functions, enabling precise retracing of pressure change curves and alarm event records for any given period, thereby providing detailed data support for equipment operation analysis and fault diagnosis.

    The Gas Detection System (GDS) consists of gas detectors, an alarm control panel, and specialized software running on a computer. The alarm control panel, when linked with a PLC, promptly activates the solenoid valves of pneumatic valves in special gas equipment upon detecting a gas leak, while simultaneously triggering both audible and visual alarms. In some GDS systems, the alarm control panel can also interface with ventilation fans, automatically shutting off the supply gas valves and initiating forced ventilation to provide double-layered protection for workplace safety. It is worth noting that inert gases contained in special gases do not require separate gas detectors for monitoring—only the ambient oxygen concentration needs to be monitored. However, process equipment handling toxic, flammable, explosive, or corrosive special gases must be equipped with gas detectors of the appropriate type.

    Both the GMS and GDS systems employ a dual-level alert mechanism consisting of primary and secondary alarms, distinguished by yellow and red audio-visual alerts, respectively. In the GMS system, the alarm setpoints are determined based on the pressure requirements of the special gas delivery process, whereas in the GDS system, the alarm thresholds are set according to the threshold limit values (TLVs) for special gases: the primary alarm threshold is 50% of the TLV value, and the secondary alarm threshold is equivalent to the TLV value itself. This tiered approach establishes a comprehensive response system, enhancing the precision of safety protection.
