Fire linkage control refers to the automatic actions taken after a fire detector senses a fire signal: shutting down air-conditioning units within the alarm zone, closing fire dampers on ductwork, stopping relevant ventilation fans, opening smoke exhaust valves on corresponding ducts, automatically closing electric fire doors and fire-resistant rolling shutters in affected areas, sequentially cutting off non-fire-related power supplies, activating emergency lighting and evacuation indicator lights, halting all elevators except fire-service elevators, and immediately activating the fire suppression system via the control center’s controller to carry out automatic fire extinguishing.
The composition forms of interlocking systems generally fall into two categories: centralized control and a combination of centralized and distributed control. The control modes include interlocked (automatic) control, non-interlocked (manual) control, and a combination of interlocked and non-interlocked control methods.
A centralized control system is one in which all fire protection facilities within a building are centrally controlled, displayed, and uniformly managed from the fire control room. This type of system is suitable for bus-based systems that implement digital control and communication protocols, and is particularly well-suited for building automation management systems controlled by computers. When the number of control points is relatively small and widely dispersed, a multi-wire system is often used instead. In cases where the number of control points is exceptionally large and highly dispersed, to simplify the control system and reduce both the number of locations displaying control signals and the number of control wires required, a hybrid system combining distributed and centralized control can be adopted. Typically, in such a system, fire pumps, supply fans, smoke and exhaust fans, certain fire-resistant rolling shutters, and automatic fire suppression control devices are centrally controlled and uniformly managed from the fire control room. For large-scale, widely dispersed control systems—such as smoke and exhaust fans and fire door release devices—distributed on-site control may be employed. It should be emphasized that, regardless of the type of control system used, the action signals from the actuators of the controlled objects must be transmitted to the fire control room for centralized display. In high-rise buildings, control objects that are prone to confusion and could lead to serious consequences—such as elevators and non-fire power supplies—should be centrally managed from the fire control room.
